Why should my child join a martial arts
programme?
Has your child ever been the victim of bullying? Have you ever had to visit
your school’s head teacher because of your child’s bad behaviour?
Does your child have difficulty doing
homework on time or completing chores at home? Do you ever feel your child is out of
control? If you have answered yes to
any of these questions, then both you and your child stand to benefit greatly
from enrolling him/her on a Martial Arts programme.
How can a martial arts programme
overcome these problems?
The key to any form of child-based training is being CONSTRUCTIVE. We do not want to demolish your
child’s character and present you with an obedient clone. We want to work with your child’s own
natural talents and personality to bring out the best he/she can possibly
become. We do this by reinforcing the
positive and helping your child see the futility of bad behaviour. For example, a bossy, domineering child is
a handful to manage both at home and at school, and it may be tempting for
some to yell and punish him/her for this behaviour. What does this achieve? A resentful and/or frightened child, who is
even less likely to respond to guidance. By highlighting the prestige to be gained
by good behaviour we can induce a desire in your child to behave well…
which is a more lasting trait than that which results from forced modes of
behaviour. We want to develop in
children a DESIRE to excel, both at Martial Arts and at school.
We achieve this by following the 5 main
objectives of the programme, which are:
- To provide a safe,
fun environment in which children can develop good quality skills
- To encourage natural
talent, a positive attitude and team player/leadership qualities
- To develop the
maximal extent of their physical and communicative abilities
- To increase their
self confidence and discipline
- To enable children
to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment
In a nutshell: we help your child fulfil
his or her potential by giving them a standard to aim for… a standard
we call ‘The Black Belt Attitude’, which is the ultimate
realisation of the behaviour we reinforce at the Academy.
"The Black Belt Attitude"
- I will work hard every day, to be the best I
can be
- I will respect my instructors and fellow
students at ALL times
- I will help others by sharing what I know and
being kind
- I will train my mind as well as my body, by
working hard at school
- I will apply the black belt attitude at home
as well as in class
- I will not use Martial Arts to hurt or bully
others
- I will not use foul language or disrespect
anyone’s religion and race
- I will not judge anyone else’s
ability… but concentrate on my own training
- I will not let my parents and teachers down by
being lazy and unhelpful
- I will not give up when things get
tough… I will work harder!
